Issue/Introduction

Unable to select the needed Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) vApp template during Kubernetes cluster deployment when Container Service Extension (CSE) vApp template is published to a tenant organization,

Environment

Container Service Extension 4.2.X
VMware Cloud Director 10.X

Cause

This issue occurs because the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) templates are improperly uploaded to the catalog as standard vApp templates or ISOs.
For CSE to recognize the images during cluster deployment, they must contain specific hidden metadata tags that are only applied when imported correctly through the user interface.

Resolution

  • Import the official TKG OVA images directly into a central Provider catalog using the CSE UI (this ensures the required hidden metadata tags are automatically applied).
  • Publish and share that single central catalog with all of your tenant Organizations.
