VMware Live Recovery

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to configure or manage site connections in VMware Live Recovery (SRM and vSphere Replication), the operation fails with a specific GUID error. This issue prevents site pairing and management operations.

Symptoms

  • Replication and Site Recovery Manager (SRM) status shows as offline or disconnected.
  • Error message: Unable to get server with GUID '####'.
  • Operation ID: 000f69eb-dcfb-4ada-9564-###########..

Environment

  • VMware Live Recovery 9.x
  • VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 8.x, 9.x
  • vSphere Replication 8.x, 9.x

Cause

This issue typically occurs due to a stale reference to a replication server in the management database, often following a redeployment or registration change that was not fully synchronized across both sites.

Resolution

Perform the following steps to refresh the appliance state and clear stale session data:

    1. Reboot Appliances:
      • Perform a graceful reboot of the vSphere Replication appliances at both the protected and recovery sites.
      • Perform a graceful reboot of the SRM appliances at both sites.
    2. Reconfigure Replication:
      • Log in to the vSphere Replication Appliance Management interface (VAMI) at both sites (https://[appliance-ip]:5480).
      • Run the configuration wizard to refresh the registration with vCenter.
    3. Reconnect Sites:
      • In the vSphere Client, navigate to Site Recovery > Site Pairs.
      • Select the affected pair and click Reconnect.

Additional Information

  • If the issue persists after reboots, manual cleanup of stale entries may be required. See Contact Support for advanced database troubleshooting.
