Issue/Introduction

  • vCenters in Enhanced Linked Mode display the following warning banner on the vSphere Client:
"Your environment is now in mixed mode. It is recommended you update your linked vCenter Servers".

  • vCenter System Configuration topology shows all vCenter Servers are on 9.1 version.

  • These vCenters are a part of VMware vSphere Foundation configuration.

Environment

VMware vCenter 9.1

VMware vSphere Foundation 9.1

Resolution

  • With vCenter 9.1, Enhanced Linked Mode, which allows unified view and administration of multiple vCenter instances, is deprecated and will be removed in a future release.

  • For VVF environment, migrate the vCenters' Enhanced Linked mode configuration to vCenter Linking (SPOG) by following the steps described in vCenter Group creation in VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) environment.

Additional Information

Group linking allows domain users to view the inventory of all connected vCenter systems from a single vSphere Client login, as long as they have the right access permissions across all the vCenters.
