Issue/Introduction

  • Attempting to upgrade the Log Insight (Aria Operations for Logs) cluster of 15 nodes to 8.18.x.
  • Multiple past issues with the cluster where some of the nodes have traces of the old SUSE Linux (SLES) OS
  • When the upgrade is attempted, the legacy nodes crash upon reboot.
  • Multiple nodes give just a GRUB screen and do not reboot after attempting the upgrade.
  • Assistance is required to preemptively replace the legacy nodes prior to the next upgrade attempt.

Environment

Aria Operations for Logs 8.18.x

Resolution

  1. Use the steps from Remove a Worker Node from a VMware Aria Operations for Logs Cluster
  2. Use the steps from Add a Worker Node to a VMware Aria Operations for Logs Cluster

If retaining the historical logs from the node see the steps from Replace a node in an Aria Operations for Logs cluster
