Issue/Introduction

When running a job on an Automic NSK (HP NonStop) Agent version 24.x, the job fails during the execution of an OBEY file. The job report contains errors similar to the following:

volume $ABCD.EFGH
RUN $ABCD.EFGH.IJKL
*ERROR* In OBEY file $BASE.UC4.JAACPLBA:
RUN $ABCD.EFGH.IJKL
^ Expecting the name of an existing file
Proceeding . . .
INFO ALL
*ERROR* In OBEY file $BASE01.UC4T.JAACPLBA:
INFO ALL
      ^ Expecting / Or DEFINE
Proceeding . . .
UC4_RETCHECK

The error occurs even if the Agent user appears to have the correct permissions on the file system.

Environment

  • Product: Automic Automation
  • Component: NSK Agent (HP NonStop)
  • Version: 24.x

Cause

This is caused by a product defect (tracked as DE183927).

Resolution

A permanent fix for this behavior is included in the following release:

  • Automic NSK Agent 24.4.5  - Available

Public Title:
HP NonStop agent disconnects and reconnects every ~15 minutes.

Public Description:
A bug was fixed where the HP NonStop agent would disconnect and reconnect every ~15 minutes.

Users are encouraged to upgrade to the latest available maintenance release for version 24 to resolve this defect

Workaround

If an immediate upgrade is not possible, perform the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify File Existence: Log in to the NSK instance as the user specified in the Automic Login object and run:
  2. fileinfo $VOLUME.SUBVOL.FILE
Ensure the file is reachable and visible to that specific user.
  3. Adjust Permissions: Ensure that the "out" (UC_EX_PATH_JOBREPORT) and "temp" (UC_EX_PATH_TEMP) directories defined in the Agent's INI file have full "Create/Write" permissions for the job user.
  4. Path Resolution: Ensure the volume and subvolume are explicitly defined in the job script to avoid resolution issues across different user environments.
