VCF Operations VMware Cloud Foundation

Issue/Introduction

  • When performing a network upgrade in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations, the task may fail for specific management components. The following error messages are typically observed in the task console:
  • Expanding the Failed task "Inventory Sync Post Upgrade" lists below errors":
Error: Refresh component in Fleet lifecycle
Error: Fleet lifecycle '[Component FQDN]' refresh has failed.
Error: Step post_upgrade_inventory_sync failed. Reference Code: #######.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9.x

Cause

The automated post-upgrade inventory sync fails to reconcile updated component states within the VCF Operations database. Significant configuration changes during the upgrade process can create an inventory mismatch between the SDDC Manager and the VCF Operations fleet lifecycle, causing the automated background synchronization to time out or error out.

Resolution

To resolve the failure, manually synchronize the inventory of the affected Workload Domain within VCF Operations. This reconciliation ensures that SDDC Manager and VCF Operations recognize the current, post-upgrade state of all cluster hosts and components.

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations user interface as admin user.
  2. On the left-hand navigation pane, select  Inventory > navigate to VCF Instances.
  3. Locate and select the specific Workload Domain that reported the failure.
  4. In the right-hand details pane, click the Actions button (located near the top right).
  5. From the dropdown menu, select Sync Inventory.
  6. A confirmation dialog may appear; click Sync to initiate the background task.
  7. Monitor the synchronization progress by navigating to Fleet Management> Tasks. Once the task status shows Completed, the automated lifecycle state should update.

Note: Reach out to Broadcom if you encounter any failures while syncing the inventory
