Migration Path for DX NetOps Performance Management from RHEL 7 to RHEL 9

Issue/Introduction

When migrating DX NetOps Performance Management from an unsupported operating system (RHEL 7) to a supported one (RHEL 9), a specific multi-step upgrade and migration sequence is required to ensure data integrity and compatibility across versions.

Symptoms: In-place upgrades from version 22.2.x directly to 25.4.x on RHEL 7 will fail (e.g., Vertica upgrade failures due to OpenSSL version incompatibilities). Additionally, version 22.2.x cannot be installed directly on RHEL 9.

Environment

Environment: DX NetOps

• Source: DX NetOps Performance Management 22.2.x on RHEL 7.x
• Target: DX NetOps Performance Management 25.4.x on RHEL 9.x

Cause

Version 22.2 supports RHEL 7 and 8, while version 25.4 requires RHEL 8 or 9.

There is no single version that spans the full compatibility gap between RHEL 7 and RHEL 9 for a direct in-place transition.

Resolution

 Follow this validated migration path using version 24.3.13 as the transitional "bridge":

1. Upgrade on Source (RHEL 7):
• Upgrade the existing DX NetOps environment from 22.2.x to 24.3.13.
• Note: Version 24.3.13 is supported on RHEL 7 specifically to facilitate this migration path.
2. Prepare Target (RHEL 9):
• Perform a clean installation of DX NetOps 24.3.13 on the new RHEL 9.x hosts.
3. Migrate Data:
• Migrate the data from the RHEL 7 hosts (running 24.3.13) to the RHEL 9 hosts (running 24.3.13).

4. Final Upgrade on Target (RHEL 9):
• Once the data is successfully migrated and the environment is stable on RHEL 9 at version 24.3.13, perform an in-place upgrade to 25.4.8 (or the latest supported version).
