VMware Aria Automation upgrade fails with VraVamiHostNameInvalidException

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to upgrade VMware Aria Automation via Aria Suite Lifecycle, the upgrade routine fails during the validation status checks. You see an error reporting that the host or FQDN cannot be reached, even though the virtual appliances are responsive to network requests.

The following error stack is observed within the task details or log outputs:

com.vmware.vrealize.lcm.common.exception.userinput.vra.VraVamiHostNameInvalidException: Unable to run command + vracli upgrade status --json . Ensure the VMware Aria Automation VA host FQDN is reachable.

Environment

VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.0

VMware Aria Automation 8.18.x

VMware Aria Automation Orchestrator 8.18.x

Cause

This issue occurs when VMware Aria Automation nodes have been moved or migrated between vCenter Servers in multi-vCenter environments without an updated record in the management layer. Aria Suite Lifecycle references stale location data, rendering it unable to properly map or execute orchestration commands against the virtual machines.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must force an inventory update within your datacenter configuration to reflect the current state of the virtual machines:

1. Open the Aria Suite Lifecycle console.

2. Click on the Data Centers panel on the management dashboard.

3. Select the specific data center associated with your deployment.

4. Click the Sync button to initiate an inventory synchronization.

5. Monitor the request until the status shows complete.

6. Return to your upgrade dashboard, locate the failed upgrade execution, and select Retry.
