Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading Univiewer Console (UVC) to version 7.01.21, users are unable to log in.
  • The following error message is displayed: Access denied: Invalid credentials
  • The issue occurs even if credentials were confirmed working prior to the upgrade.
  • The UVMS is running on version 7.00.21 or lower.

Environment

  • Univiewer Console 7.01.21
  • Univiewer Management Server (UVMS) 7.00.21 or lower

Cause

This is caused by a regression (Defect DE203809) where UVC 7.01.21 is incompatible with the authentication layer of UVMS versions older than 7.00.21.

Resolution

Workaround 1:

Update the Univiewer Management Server (UVMS) to version 7.01.21 or higher to ensure compatibility with the console. See Automic Downloads for steps to download this release.

Workaround 2:

If an immediate UVMS upgrade is not possible, replace the kmeleon-core library in the UVC 7.01.21 installation by the one attached to this article:

  1. Navigate to the \jars directory within the Univiewer Console installation folder.
  2. Back up the existing kmeleon-core.jar file.
  3. Replace it with the modified kmeleon-core.jar provided in this article by Technical Support.
  4. Restart the Univiewer Console.

Solution:

Update to a fix version listed below or a newer version if available.

Fix version(s):
Component: Univiewer Console
Dollar Universe 7.01.31 - planned release November 2026

Additional Information

Public Title: Cannot login from UVC 7.01.21 to UVMS 7.00.21 (Access denied)

Public Description: Fixed a defect where UniViewer Console was unable to log into older versions of UVMS (7.00.21 and inferior). The issue was caused by a failure in the password backward-compatibility logic, which prevented UVC from retrying the login after the encrypted password format was rejected by the older server.
