Issue/Introduction

During the upgrade process, the virtual disk size of an NSX Edge VM increases by approximately 10 GB.

** Before upgrade **

** After upgrade **

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

This occurs because the upgrade installs the new OS onto an alternate partition rather than overwriting the old OS, and subsequently switches the active boot partition to the new one.

Resolution

Prior to initiating the upgrade, you must ensure that there is sufficient available space on the datastore hosting the Edge VM. Please verify the required capacity against the official NSX Edge VM Resource Requirements.
