Issue/Introduction

  • Users attempting to upgrade Aria Operations from version 8.18.x to 8.18.7 find that the upgrade binaries (PAK files) are not populated or discovered in the Aria Suite Lifecycle UI.
  • The upgrade option for Aria Operations 8.18.7 remains unavailable or grayed out even after manual file upload.

Environment

  • Aria Operations for Logs 8.18.6 and earlier
  • Aria Lifecycle Manager 8.18 Patch 7 and earlier.

Cause

Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.0 requires a minimum patch level to recognize the metadata and compatibility mapping for Aria Operations 8.18.7. Specifically, Patch 8 must be applied to the Lifecycle appliance to enable support for the 8.18.7 product binaries.

Resolution

Step 1: Patch Aria Suite Lifecycle

  1. Download the Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.0 Patch 8 file from the Broadcom Support Portal.
  2. Upload the patch file to the `/data` directory of the Aria Suite Lifecycle appliance using SCP or similar tool.
  3. Log in to the Lifecycle UI and navigate to 'Settings' > 'Binary Mapping' > 'Patch Binaries'.
  4. Enter `/data` in the path field, click 'Discover', and select the discovered Patch 8 file to add it to the library.
  5. Navigate to 'Settings' -> 'System Patch'.
  6. Take a virtual machine snapshot of the Lifecycle appliance.
  7. Select the Patch 8 update and click **Install**. The appliance services will restart during this process.

Step 2: Map Aria Operations 8.18.7 Binaries

  1. Once the appliance is on Patch 8, upload the Aria Operations 8.18.7 Upgrade PAK file to the `/data` directory.
  2. Navigate to 'Settings' -> 'Binary Mapping' -> 'Product Binaries'.
  3. Click 'Add Binaries', select the location type as 'Local', enter the path `/data`, and click 'Discover'.
  4. Select the 8.18.7 binary and click 'Add'.

Step 3: Execute the Upgrade

  1. Navigate to 'Environments' and select the environment containing the Aria Operations instance.
  2. Click 'View Details' and select 'Upgrade'.
  3. Follow the wizard to run the pre-checks and complete the upgrade orchestration.
