Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to power on the VM from VCD.
  • The below error is reported after a VM power on task has been timed out after 15 minutes:

The vCenter Server operation [vcld=########-####-####-####-############, moref=task-####]) has taken too long (900000.00 seconds). VMware Cloud Director considers this operation timed out.

  • ESXi host(s) were patched in the Cluster where the VM resides.
  • vSphere Cluster DRS is set to Manual.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1.2

Cause

This issue occurs when the backing vSphere Cluster DRS Automation level is set to Manual.

Resolution

When the DRS setting in vCenter is set to Manual, VMware Cloud Director does not support the power on function of VMs. VMware Cloud Director supports the power on function only when the DRS automation level is Fully Automated or Partially Automated.
