Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

After a successful deployment, attempting to connect to the Protection and Recovery 9.1 appliance results in the following behavior:

  • Unable to launch or log in to the VAMI or the appliance client.

  • When attempting to access the VAMI via FQDN or IP address, the web page fails to load and throws the following errors:

    • This <fqdn/IP> page can't be found

    • Access to <fqdn> was denied

Environment

Protection and Recovery 9.1

Cause

This issue occurs because the Protection and Recovery Proxy appliance was deployed instead of the primary Protection and Recovery appliance.

Note: The proxy appliance does not feature a VAMI. Its sole purpose is to act as a proxy that transfers replication traffic between the source and target ESXi hosts on the provider-supplied Layer 3 (L3) data path network.

Cause Validation:

To confirm if the wrong appliance type was deployed:

  1. Launch the Web Console for the newly deployed appliance from the vSphere Client.

  2. Review the console screen; it will explicitly show that the deployed machine is a Proxy rather than the full Protection and Recovery appliance.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, deploy the correct appliance using the proper installation media.

  1. Locate the correct ISO file for deployment: Protection-and-recovery-9.1.0.0.25367487.iso.

  2. Deploy the Protection and Recovery appliance using this ISO (ensuring you do not accidentally select the proxy OVA/template). Refer Deploy Protection and Recovery from the vCenter User Interface

  3. Once the deployment completes, power on the appliance.

  4. Verify that you can now successfully launch the VAMI, log in, and proceed with the initial configuration.
