When going through a deployment of a vCenter 9.x in Stage 1 > Step 7 > Configure networking settings > Allocation Scheme (Optional) and values are populated, you may experience vpxd service failing to start during Stage 2
Stage 2 Error: An error occurred while starting service 'vpxd'
vCenter 9.0.x
vCenter 9.1.x
The cause of the vxpd service failing to start during Stage 2 process can be due to the error " MAC prefix parameters are invalid: range [ xxxxxxxx, xxxxxxx] overlaps with VMware reserved MAC ranges " that is observed in the /var/log/vmware/vpxd/vpxd.log

This happens when the MAC Address Prefix and Prefix Length are overlapping when manually populated incorrectly in Stage 1 > Step 7 > Configure networking settings > Allocation Scheme (Optional)
1. If you accidently populated the Stage 1 > Step 7 > Configure networking settings > Allocation Scheme (Optional) > MAC Address Prefix and Prefix Length, and Stage 2 deployment is failing, you would need to re-deploy the vCenter and leave those values empty during Stage 1.
2. If you are leveraging this configuration and incorrectly populated the Stage 1 > Step 7 > Configure networking settings > Allocation Scheme (Optional) > MAC Address Prefix and Prefix Length, and Stage 2 deployment is failing due to Error: An error occurred while starting service 'vpxd'
Then the MAC address prefix and length populated were incorrect or overlapping.
To configure a range, use the link below to help explain the process and view the default values that are used for populating for Prefix and length.
