Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter inventory reports: "Unable to apply DRS resource settings on host."
  • ESXi -/var/run/log/hostd.log shows: `CPU/Memory resource update failed: Unable to complete Sysinfo operation... Out of memory`.
  • ESXi -/var/runlog/vmkernel.log shows: `Admission failure in path: host/user/vm.#######`.

Environment

  • VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
  • VMware vCenter 8.x

Cause

The host has insufficient resources in the specific admission path to apply the DRS resource configuration.

Resolution

  1. Place the ESXi host into Maintenance Mode to evacuate all virtual machines from the affected ESXi host.
  2. Reboot the ESXi host to clear memory allocation issues.
  3. For further assistance, see Contact Broadcom Support.
