snmpwalk for NSX components failed with Timedout: No Response

Issue/Introduction

• SNMP v2c is configured on NSX
• SNMP polling was performed for the supported OID's as per SNMP polling for NSX components is limited and may not function as expected 
•  
• No response when polling and snmpwalk failed with below error

snmpwalk -v2c -c <COMMUNITY-STRING> <EDGE-or-MANAGER-IP-ADDRESS>

Timeout: No response from <EDGE-or-MANAGER-IP-ADDRESS>

• snmp service is running on the NSX manager or Edge
• ICMP and UDP 161, 162 connectivity is successfull.
• SNMP server is Observium. However it may differ.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

• Communication issue along the path between SNMP server and NSX Managers/Edges
• SNMP packets are getting dropped along the path

 

Resolution

• Identify the networking path between the SNMP server and NSX Manager/Edge
• Isolate using Packet Captures  to identify if there is any drops at VMware infra.
• Check for any firewall rules on associated T1 Edge/gateway and DFW for SNMP services.
• If any external firewall exists along the path, make sure there is no drop.
