VCF Operations

Issue/Introduction

In VCF environments using disconnected mode, users may encounter the following licensing discrepancies:

  • The Broadcom Services Console (BSC) portal displays zero license usage.
  • VCF Operations correctly reports usage (e.g., vCF cores and vSAN TiBs) but displays registration warnings.
  • The "Next Usage Report Due" date in VCF Operations does not update after uploading usage files to the portal.

Environment

VCF Operations 9.1

Cause

This issue typically occurs when a license report is generated and uploaded from an incorrect VCF Operations instance, or when the registration synchronization between the local instance and the BSC portal fails to update the local metadata.

Resolution

To synchronize the usage reporting and clear registration warnings, follow these steps to regenerate and import the license file:

Step 1: Generate Usage File from VCF Operations

  1. In the VCF Operations instance, navigate to License Management > Registration.
  2. Click Generate Usage File and save the file locally.

Step 2: Upload to Broadcom Services Console (BSC)

  1. Log in to the BSC portal and navigate to License Management > VCF Operations Registrations.
  2. Locate the specific VCF Operations instance and click the vertical ellipsis (three dots).
  3. Select Upload Usage File.
  4. In the wizard, upload the file generated in Step 1 and click Save and Next.
  5. A new license file will be generated; click Download to save it.

Step 3: Import License File to VCF Operations

  1. Return to the VCF Operations instance and navigate to License Management > Registration.
  2. Click Import License File.
  3. Browse for the license file downloaded from the BSC portal and click Import.
  4. Once the import is successful, click Complete.

Best Practices

  • Pre-download Requirement: Always submit a fresh usage file to the BSC portal before downloading a new license file to ensure usage data is accurately captured.
  • Timing: You can generate a new license file without a usage file only if you are still within your usage reporting due date window.
