Issue/Introduction

Unable to upgrade VCF Automation from version 9.0.2 to 9.1.0 within VCF Operations 9.1. When attempting the upgrade, the precheck fails on the SSH connection check and returns the following error:

An Unknown Error occurred, Please retry the operations or contact support if the issue persists. [VCFMS-PRECHECK-GENERIC-001]

Additionally, when navigating in the UI to Manage -> Fleet management -> Passwords, No passwords are listed for automation.

Environment

VCF Operations 9.1

VCF Automation 9.0.2 or 8.x

Cause

The VCF Automation import to VCF Operations was performed with corrupted/expired credentials during the VCF 9.1 upgrade.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Verify that SSH access into the VCF Automation nodes using the vmware-system-user account works and ensure that the passwords are not expired.

  2. Follow the instructions in the following KB to delete the corrupted component: Scripted components cleanup from VCF Operations.

  3. Re-import the VCF Automation component using the Add component button in the UI.
