Converting Hand-Coded RPG III/IV to RPG IV

Issue/Introduction

Customers utilizing CA 2E may have extensive hand-coded RPG III or RPG IV programs outside of the 2E model and require guidance on converting hand-coded RPG III to RPG IV with minimal manual intervention.

Environment

CA 2E 8.7.x

Resolution

Conversion of hand-written RPG III code directly within CA 2E is not supported.

This is because hand-written code lacks model definitions inside the CA 2E model.  Therefore the CA 2E RPG IV generators cannot process or handle the conversion out-of-the-box.

Recommended Workaround: Use the IBM-supplied CVTRPGSRC (Convert RPG Source) command to convert the source members from RPG III to RPG IV outside of the CA 2E environment.
