Issue/Introduction

Accidental deletion of a Test Folder (TF####) results in the removal of all nested Test Cases from their associated Test Sets. Revision history shows results and test cases "Moved to Recycle Bin" and "removed from TEST SET"

Environment

Rally SAAS

Cause

Rally distinguishes between core objects and container objects. Test Folders and Test Cases are core objects that reside in the Recycle Bin upon deletion. Test Sets are container objects that are permanently deleted. When a Test Folder is deleted, the association between its child Test Cases and any existing Test Sets is broken immediately.

Resolution

Restore the core objects and manually rebuild the container associations.

  1. Navigate to Home > Recycle Bin.
  2. Select Type: Test Folder from the filter dropdown.
  3. Locate the deleted folder (e.g., TF####) and select Restore.
  4. If the child Test Cases do not automatically reappear in the Test Folder, change filter to Type: Test Case.
  5. Locate missing Test Cases and select Restore.
  6. Create new Test Sets to replace those permanently deleted.
  7. Add the restored Test Cases back to the new Test Set containers.
  8. Verify that previous Test Case results are visible within the restored Test Case history.

Note: If any Work Item is permanently deleted from the Recycle Bin, it remains restorable for 21 days. Restoration is not possible after this period.
