Issue/Introduction

Running CAVHPROT and receives message IEC070I 209-220,NOTSMS,LOAD,PROTSYM,8C15,TSU009 in the LOAD step which initializes the PROTSYM file using utility program IN25UTIL. This message indicates that an extend was attempted for the PROTSYM file, but no secondary space allocation quantity was specified. Since DATACLASS(EXTENDED) was being used, SMS attempted to extend the file. The warning message IEC070I 209-220 was produced as SMS attempts to extend the PROTSYM until no more space is available on the volume.

Resolution

When allocating a PROTSYM repository secondary extents on the VSAM cluster are not allowed. You need to ensure that the PROTSYM file utilizes a non extended SMS class or remove the PROTSYM repository from SMS control. Likewise any vendor products such as STOPx37 which will also allocate secondary extents must not be used.
