Issue/Introduction

After Deleting a device from the Inventory in the Operator Console (OC), the MCS profile it was previously deployed to that device is lost when the robot is rediscovered.

Is an easy way to restore these lost MCS profiles or they must be manually recreated?

Environment

DX UIM 23.4.*

Cause

MCS profiles created at the device level are permanently deleted from the database when the associated device is removed from the inventory.

Resolution

Device Level Profiles Persistence MCS profiles that are created specifically as Device Profiles (not Group Profiles) are tied to the unique device record in the inventory. When a device is deleted from the inventory and subsequently rediscovered, it is assigned a new identifier. Because the original record was removed, any device-level profiles associated with it are also purged and cannot be automatically restored.

Restoration and Recreation

  • Manual Recreation: If the profiles were device-specific, they must be manually recreated for the new device entry. There is no built-in "restore" function for deleted MCS device profiles.
  • Copying Profiles: If similar profiles exist on other devices, you may attempt to copy them to the new device to save time.

How to Copy and Apply Profiles in MCS
  • Group Profiles Advantage: Profiles deployed via MCS Groups are more resilient. If a device is deleted and rediscovered, adding the new device back into the appropriate MCS Group will trigger the automatic redeployment of all group-level profiles to that device.
