Issue/Introduction

ESXi hosts or Transport Nodes show a "Failed" status in the NSX Manager UI. When clicking on the error details, the following message is displayed:

[TN=TransportNode/<uuid>]. Reason: Failed to send HostConfig RPC to MPA TN:<uuid>. Error: Unable to reach client <TN-uuid>, application SwitchingVertical.

Note: Unlike KB 410032, the messaging-manager service on the NSX Manager may appear to be in a "Running (Up)" state despite these failures.

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

Verify and Restart NSX Manager Messaging Service

  • Log into the NSX Manager CLI as admin.
  • Check the service status: get service messaging-manager
  • Even if the state is "running", force a reinitialization by restarting the service: restart service messaging-manager
  • Verify the service returns to a healthy state: get service messaging-manager
