Issue/Introduction

  • High-rate calls "retrieve properties" are being sent to vCenter in VCF Operations for Networks
  • The following calls are seen in the Collector VM at /var/log/arkin/collector directory where the vCenter Datasource is located:
  • The following entries appear in the Collector VM at /var/log/arkin/collector where the vCenter Datasource is located: WARN VVV.XX.Client VCENTER_####.####.HH invoke:129 Exception caught while invoking method: RetrieveProperties
  • vCenter Envoy access logs (/var/log/vmware/envoy/envoy-access.log) show high volume requests (e.g., 647 requests / 629 responses) with large BYTES_SENT values (e.g., 65 MB).

Cause

This issue occurs when environments with a high number of Virtual Machines (e.g., 15K+) cause data to be collected in excessive batches (e.g., 965 times in batches of 100 over a one-hour period).

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VCF Operations for Networks (Formerly Aria Operations for Networks)
