Issue/Introduction

When running the VCF Installer 9.0 validation, the process fails with the following error related to cluster configuration:

  • cluster <Cluster-name>: Cluster is not vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) image based
Remediation: Please make sure cluster is vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) image based

Environment

VCF 9.0

Cause

VCF 9.0 requires clusters to be managed using vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) Images rather than the legacy Baselines (VUM) method.

This validation error occurs because the target cluster is still configured to use baselines, which is incompatible with the VCF 9.0 installation requirements.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must convert the cluster or the hosts from using baselines to using vSphere Lifecycle Manager images.

Steps to Convert Baselines to Images:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.
  2. Navigate to the Cluster identified in the error message.
  3. Select the Updates tab.
  4. Click on Image under the vSphere Lifecycle Manager section.
  5. Select Setup Image to begin the conversion process.
  6. Follow the wizard to define the desired state for the cluster:
    - Select the ESXi Version.
    - Add any required Vendor Add-ons or Components.
  7. Click Save and finish the image setup.

After the cluster has been successfully transitioned to vLCM images, re-run the VCF Installer validation.
