UVMS Upgrade from 6.7 to 7.X Fails with SQLGrammarException

Issue/Introduction

Upgrading the Dollar Universe Univiewer Management Server (UVMS) from version 6.7.41 directly to 7.01.14 fails.

The upgrade process throws an error and the following output is observed in the logs or command prompt:

Exception in thread "main" org.springframework.dao.InvalidDataAccess Resource UsageException: The database operation could not be executed.; nested exception is org.hibernate.exception. SQLGrammarException: could not prepare statement

Cause

The direct upgrade path from version 6.7.41 to version 7.01.14 is not supported.

The UVMS must be upgraded to a specific intermediate release before progressing to 7.01.14.

 

Resolution

To successfully reach UVMS version 7.01.14, the upgrade must be performed in two sequential steps:

1. First, upgrade the UVMS application from version 6.7.41 to version 6.10.91.

2. Once the intermediate upgrade is complete and verified, proceed to upgrade the UVMS from 6.10.91 to version 7.01.14.
