Issue/Introduction

During a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) upgrade to version 9.1, the deployment of VCF Management Services fails during the validation phase.

Error in SDDC Manager (UI/CLI)

Validation failed with resultStatus FAILED. Validation checks (1): Validate VCF Instance Cloud Proxy Registration Remediation: Verify VCF Instance Cloud Proxy Registration is properly configured.

The SDDC log shows the following exception:

/var/log/vmware/vcf/domainmanager/domainmanager.logs

{
  "errorCode": "BROWNFIELD_VCF_INSTANCE_CLOUD_PROXY_REGISTRATION_VALIDATION.error",
  "message": "VCF Instance Cloud Proxy Registration validation failed",
  "remediationMessage": "Verify VCF Instance Cloud Proxy Registration is properly configured"
}

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1
  • VCF Operations 9.1

Cause

This issue occurs because the VCF instance integrations in VCF Operations have not been transitioned to a Cloud Proxy. In VCF 9.1, the management stack requires the VCF instance adapter (vCenter Server Endpoint) to point to a healthy Cloud Proxy or a designated Cloud Proxy collector group rather than a local collector to pass registration validation.

Resolution

To resolve the validation failure, manually update the VCF integrations in VCF Operations to utilize the Cloud Proxy collector group.

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations (Aria Operations) user interface.
  2. Navigate to the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) instance and its associated workload domains.
  3. Update the integrations for all vCenter instances within the same VCF Instance to use the new Cloud Proxy or the designated Cloud Proxy collector group.
  4. Verify that the Cloud Proxy status is reported as Healthy within the VCF Operations console.
  5. Once the integration is updated, return to the SDDC Manager and retry the VCF Management Services deployment validation.
