Issue/Introduction

  • Multiple Windows machine reports Event ID with 129 and 153 intermittently in the Event viewer.

  • Performance of the Virtual machines are affected during the same time.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

Issue is caused due to connectivity issue between the ESXi hosts and the Storage array.

From /var/run/log/vobd.log from ESXi host, there are heartbeat timeout events during the same timestamp when the Event 129/153 reported from the Windows OS.

From /var/run/log/vmkernel logs from the ESXi host, there are frequent nfnic aborts on the hosts.

Resolution

  1. Fix the connectivity between the ESXi hosts and the Storage array

  2. Upgrade the HBA driver firmware to the latest supported version as Broadcom compatibility guide.
