Issue/Introduction

VCF Cloud Usage Meter 9.x collects CPU core usage data from registered vCenter Servers and transmits telemetry to the Broadcom VCF Business Console.

One or more of the following symptoms may be present:

  • Hosts are missing from core usage telemetry.

  • Hosts are suspected of being non-compliant within reports.

  • The Usage Meter Web UI displays a notification status indicating "PLEASE ACCEPT CERTIFICATE".

Environment

VCF Cloud Usage Meter 9.x

Cause

Reporting discrepancies typically occur if the Usage Meter appliance lacks a trusted connection with the vCenter Server due to unaccepted SSL certificates, or if hosts had no powered-on virtual machines running during the specific reporting interval.

Resolution

Verify that hosts are correctly identified for metering by executing the following validation paths:

1. Verify vCenter Connection Status

  1. Log in to the Usage Meter Web UI.

  2. Navigate to Cloud > vCenter.

  3. Confirm the status for each registered vCenter is Connected.

  4. If the status shows PLEASE ACCEPT CERTIFICATE, click the link and select Accept.

2. Verify Successful Data Uploads

  1. In the Usage Meter Web UI, click the Notifications icon.

  2. Validate that all uploads are successful, looking specifically for the message: Successfully uploaded product consumption data to VCF Business Service Console.

  3. Verify reporting status in VCF business console - How do I check the reporting status of vCloud Usage Meter instances

3. Verify Connection Status on the vCenter

  1. Validate that the target hosts are actively connected to the vCenter Server.

  2. Verify that host CPUs are actively consumed by powered-on Virtual Machines.

  3. Check and verify the permissions of the service account used for integration as outlined in the VMware Usage Meter Operational Guidelines.

4. Backend Verification

  1. If the discrepancy persists after performing the above validation steps, please open a ticket with Broadcom Support.

  2. Provide the following three mandatory items required for backend review:

Usage Meter ID (UUID): This can be found on the About page of the VCF Usage Meter Web UI.

Hourly Usage Report (HUR): Download the VCF Usage Meter Reports and attach the report spanning the exact period in which the hosts are missing.

List of Impacted Hosts and Host ID: Provide the list of all the ESXi hostnames and host ID from the vCenter.
