Issue/Introduction

  • VM console fails to open in VMware Cloud Director
  • The environment is configured with different certificates for HTTP and Console Proxy
  • HTTP certificate is valid but Console Proxy has expired
  • KB372620 does not resolve the issue

Environment

VCD: 10.3.3.2

TCI: 2.3

Cause

The separate Console Proxy configuration is failing to establish a secure connection using the dedicated certificate.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Director provider portal as a system administrator.

  2. Navigate to Administration > Settings > Public Addresses.

  3. Edit the Console Proxy Server address to use port 443 instead of the legacy dedicated port. (FQDN:443)

  4. Save the configuration.

  5. Ensure the HTTP certificate is valid for the unified connection.

Additional Information

VMware Cloud Director 10.4 and later deprecates the dedicated Console Proxy port (typically 8443) and unifies both HTTP and console connections over port 443. Consolidating to port 443 in earlier supported versions circumvents separate console proxy certificate failures:
