VM deployment from VMware Aria Automation fails with error: "Cannot read property 'datastore' from null"

Issue/Introduction

Virtual machine deployments from VMware Aria Automation fail with a null property error. The following error is observed in the failed Aria Orchestrator Workflow logs:

Extensibility triggered task failed. Event ID: XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Failure: Extensibility error received for topic compute.provision.post, eventId = 'XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX': [10040] SubscriberID: vro-gateway-XXXXXXXX, RunnableID: XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX and SubscriptionID: sub_XXXXXXX failed with the following error: Workflow run [XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX] completed with error [TypeError: Cannot read property "datastore" from null (Workflow:<Workflow Name> / <Scriptable Task> (item#)#<line>)]

No errors are observed for the vCenter Cloud Account in VMware Aria Automation
No errors are observed for the vCenter in the inventory of VMware Aria Orchestrator.

Environment

Aria Orchestrator 8.18.X(Embedded/Standalone)

Cause

This issue occurs because the vCenter server certificate replaced/renewed, but the new certificate has not yet been accepted in VMware Aria Orchestrator Automatically. 

Resolution

  1) Open your vCenter URL in a web browser.
  2) Click the Lock icon in the address bar, select Connection is Secure, and click the Certificate icon to validate the dates and confirm if the certificate was recently renewed.
  3) Log in to VMware Aria Orchestrator.
  4) Navigate to Library > Workflows.
  5) Search for the Update a vCenter Server instance workflow (located under vCenter > Configuration) and click Run.
  6) Select the affected vCenter server instance and click the Update the log-in properties tab. Select the checkbox to accept the new certificate and silently accept it.
  7) Uncheck the Update the method to manage user access to the vCenter Server system checkbox. (Note: If you select No, Orchestrator creates only one connection to the vCenter Server using a shared unique session).
  8) Update the user name and password, and click Run.
