Issue/Introduction

Administrators may need to configure specific password complexity rules within CA Embedded Entitlements Manager (EEM). A common requirement is determining whether EEM can natively enforce a policy requiring the first character of a user's password to be an alphabetic letter rather than a numeric digit.

Resolution

There is no native password configuration or setting within CA EEM to specifically restrict or enforce that the first character of a user's password must be a letter versus a number.

When reviewing or modifying password compliance rules, consider the following authentication scopes:

• Internal EEM Users: Native EEM password restriction and complexity rules apply only to internal user accounts created and stored directly inside EEM.

• External User Stores (LDAP/AD): If your EEM instance is configured to point to an external LDAP directory, user passwords must comply with the external directory's native security policies. EEM does not override or dictate password requirements for external directory accounts.

Recommendation: If your EEM environment points to an external user store, consult your LDAP or Active Directory administrator regarding their current password restrictions, policy enforcements, and complexity requirements.
