VMware Tools installation fails on 32-bit guest operating systems versions after 12.4.9

Issue/Introduction

• VMware Tools installation fails when attempted on a 32-bit guest operating system. This issue occurs when deploying VMware Tools versions later than 12.4.9 (including 13.x releases).

 

Environment

VMware Tools 13.x and later.
32-bit Guest Operating Systems

Cause

Support for 32-bit guest operating systems has been discontinued in VMware Tools releases subsequent to version 12.4.9.

Resolution

 

• Abort the installation of the current VMware Tools version (13.x or later).

• Download VMware Tools version 12.4.9 or lower version depending on the compatibility

• Manually install VMware Tools version 12.4.9 on the affected 32-bit guest operating system.

 

Additional Information

Version 12.4.9 is the final VMware Tools release that supports 32-bit guest operating systems.
