Issue/Introduction

vSphere tasks and event history fail to display for Virtual Machines, timing out when attempting to load within the vSphere Client UI. Queries to the vCenter Server database experience severe performance degradation, resulting in the following error message:
"The query batch execution took too long: 120001 milliseconds"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

Third-party monitoring integrations flooded the vCenter Server database events history table with excessive records (such as rapid login/logout attempts and repeated API calls). This causes significant database bloat, leading to query performance degradation and UI timeouts.

Resolution

  • Expand the logdb partition to ensure sufficient database buffer space is available to process a large cleanup operation.

  • Execute a targeted database purge to remove the excessive event entries (e.g., login/logout events) generated by the monitoring service accounts, preserving required historical data using KB "vCenter Server services fail to start due to full /storage/seat partition
