Source Environment: VCD : 10.6.x + vCenter 8.x + HCX : 9.1
Target/Destination Environment: VCF 9.1
VMware HCX 9.x and later versions do not support direct integration with VMware Cloud Director (VCD) instances.
To perform migrations involving VCD 10.6.x, utilize one of the following supported alternative topologies:
Scenario 1: Migrations from vCenter Server 8.x (and earlier) to VCD 10.6.x
Deploy VMware HCX 4.11.3 or later on both the source and destination environments.
VMware HCX 4.11.3+ supports VCD exclusively as a Destination, not as a Source.
Do not use VMware HCX 9.x for this scenario.
Verify specific compatible versions via the Broadcom Product Interoperability Matrix.
Scenario 2: Migrations from VCD 10.6.x (backed by vCenter Server 8.x) to vCenter Server 9.x
Deploy VMware HCX 9.x on both the source and destination environments (HCX 9.0 can be paired with 9.1).
Register VMware HCX 9.x directly to the underlying vCenter Server 8.x instance, bypassing VCD.
Migrate virtual machines from the VCD environment utilizing the vCenter-to-vCenter connection.
Note: Residual VCD artifacts present in the HCX 9.x UI are slated for removal in a future HCX release.
Scenario 3: Migrations from VCD 10.6.x (backed by vCenter Server 8.x) to VCF Automation 9.1
Deploy VMware HCX 9.1 on both the source and destination environments.
Register VMware HCX 9.1 directly to the underlying vCenter Server 8.x instance, bypassing VCD.
Migrate virtual machines from the VCD environment to a Namespace utilizing the vCenter-to-vCenter connection.
