VSAN Health service won't start and VAMI backups are failing

Issue/Introduction

vCenter service "vmware-vsan-health" service will not start.

 

Environment

vCenter 8.x

Cause

Note about the vSAN Health service, this service failing does not indicate an issue with vSAN Storage. vSAN Health service is used by various elements on the vCenter VM, an example is the VAMI Backup functionality may fail if this service can not start.

vCenter missing an expected python file named.

/usr/lib/vmware-vpx/vsan-health/pyMoVsan/VsanVcObjectSystemImpl.pyc

Resolution

To resolve this issue, there are two known options.

• First Option
  • Restore the VsanVcObjectSystemImpl.pyc file to the  /usr/lib/vmware-vpx/vsan-health/pyMoVsan directory.
• Second Option
  • Redeploy the vCenter VM
