Issue/Introduction

What are the compatibility issues with IBM DS8K DASD and MICS Resource Management? 

Resolution

There are no specific PTFs to support the transition to the IBM DS8K DASD environment.
From a software and data collection standpoint, the DS8K array emulates
standard IBM 3390 architecture (such as 3390-9, 3390-27, or 3390-A Extended
Address Volumes). Because the MICS VCC DASD collector and SMF loaders interact
with these at the logical 3390 architecture level—there are no unique PTFs required
or planned based solely on changing to DS8K hardware.

 

Additional Information

In the MICS Space Analyzer Option (VCA Component) Volume     
Allocation (VCAVOA) file, DEVTYPE will show a Device Type of 
3390-9, even for DASD volumes that have larger allocations   
(e.g., 3390-27 or 3390-54). This is because IBM provides the 
same device code regardless of the additional space allocated
to 3390-9 volumes.  In this VCAVOA file you can use data     
element VCA3390M to a 3390-xx derived device type value.     
MICS derives the device type value using the amount of space 
allocated to the 3390 DASD volume.
