Issue/Introduction

The CA 7 task hangs while the system awaits a WTOR reply to message CA-7.200: BOTH LOG FILES ARE FULL.

The CA 7 log switch attempt occurs concurrently when an operator issues a /SWAP command (manually or via an automated job/script) while an internal automatic process triggers the DBASE dump job when the log files (LOGP/LOGS) are full.

Environment

Release: 12.0, 12.1

Component: WA CA 7 Edition

Cause

Issuing the manual or automated /SWAP command within seconds of an automatic switch causes the CA 7 task to hang while the system awaits a WTOR reply to message CA-7.200.

Resolution

To resolve the immediate CA 7 hang and prevent recurrence, follow these best practices:

  1. Avoid Manual Swaps: Do not manually issue the /SWAP command during normal operations. Allow the CA 7 product to manage log file switches automatically when they become full.
  2. Recovery from Hang: If the CA-7.200 message is already present:
    • Manually run the log dump jobs (e.g., LOGP or LOGS dump) outside of CA 7.
    • Once the dump completes, reply to the WTOR with the appropriate log identifier (LOGP or LOGS) to resume processing.
