Issue/Introduction

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to access and log into the dedicated Log Management User Interface (UI) in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1.

If customers need to access the Log Management UI, this article will guide you through the process.

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1, VMware Aria Operations for Logs has been rebranded as Log Management and introduced as a built-in, containerized core service running natively within the VCF Management Services Platform. The entire logging user experience—including deployment lifecycles, centralized configuration, access control, and alerting—is fully consolidated into VCF Operations.

Within the VCF 9.1 architecture, Log Management centrally collects, queries, and analyzes log data from various platform components. Once the deployment is complete, administrators can review integrated Log Management directly through the unified VCF Operations console. Alternatively, you can access the unified VCF Operations console to perform advanced tasks such as verifying log ingestion status, executing deep queries, and configuring log forwarding.

Resolution

  • VCF Operations Console: This is the primary Log Management access interface. All the Log Management features are natively integrated into the VCF Operations. It is recommended to access logs through the VCF Operations console.
    • Step 1: Access via Web Browser

Open a web browser and navigate to the VCF Operations Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) using the following URL format: https://<VCF-Operations-FQDN>

Replace <VCF-Operations-FQDN> with the actual FQDN or IP address of your VCF Operations primary node.

    • Step 2: Access logs

Navigate to VCF Operations > Operate > Logs to view and analyse logs.
  • Emergency Access Console (this is not a Log Management Console): If VCF Operations console is unavailable, administrator can log in directly to the standalone UI via https://<Log-Management-FQDN> using the VCF management services local account (admin@vsp.local).
You can use this UI to locally access logs until VCF Operations becomes available.
    • Step 1: Access via Web Browser

Open a web browser and navigate to the Log Management Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) using the following URL format: https://<Log-Management-FQDN>

Replace <Log-Management-FQDN> with the actual FQDN or IP address of your Log Management used during deployment/upgrade.

    • Step 2: Login with credentials

Once the VMware Cloud Foundation Log Management sign-in interface loads, enter the following default deployment credentials:
      • Username: admin@vsp.local

      • Password: [The password configured for the vmware-system-user in VMSP]

⚠️ Important Note on Security & Production Environments:

The admin@vsp.local account represents the authorized VMSP (VMware System Platform) administrator credentials used to access component UIs. While this login method aligns with standard validation workflows in lab environments, it is highly recommended to access Log Management via the Logs page within the VCF Operations UI in production. Accessing this standalone UI directly should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

    • Step 3: Access logs

      Navigate to Analyze Logs tab
