Policy not applying to custom group with tag membership criteria

Issue/Introduction

• A custom policy In Maintenance Policy is created for the purpose of disabling unneccessary alerts for the objects that are applied with this policy. The policy rank is set to 1.
• A custom tag InMaintenance with tag value Yes is created.

• A custom group named In Maintenance is created, and Keep group membership up to date is checked. One of the Membership Criteria is set to include all objects that are a child of the custom tag Yes.

The above settings will allow the objects automatically apply In Maintenance Policy when they are dragged to InMaintenance -Yes through Operations > Configurations > Inventory Management. This has been working until recently it stopped working for some objects.

 

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

There are objects manually assigned to the default policy directly. Direct assignments override group-based priorities, the system ignores the automation pipeline.

 

Resolution

1. Go to Aria Operations UI > Operations > Configuration > Policy Definition, locate the default policy those objects are assigned to currently.

2. Edit the policy, then go to Groups and Objects.

3. Remove manual assignments for the groups and the objects.
