Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to remove a decommissioned ESXi host from the NSX cluster view.
  • The host remains in a "Host Disconnected" state even after being removed from the vCenter Server inventory.
  • Standard API DELETE requests utilizing the force=true parameter fail to remove the entry.
  • The host persists in the NSX Manager UI under System > Fabric > Hosts.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.2.3.2.1

Cause

  • Compute Manager connectivity to the NSX Manager is down, preventing the NSX Manager from receiving vCenter Server inventory updates.

Resolution

  1. Resolve communication and connectivity issues between the NSX Manager and the vCenter Server (Compute Manager).

  2. Verify the Compute Manager connection status displays as connected/up in the NSX Manager UI.

  3. Allow the vCenter Server inventory updates to sync to the NSX Manager. The decommissioned host will automatically move to the "Standalone" tab.

  4. Navigate to the Standalone tab in the NSX Manager UI.

  5. Select the decommissioned host and execute a force delete to successfully remove the stale entry.
