Issue/Introduction

Update passwords for NSX-T Manager and other VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) components using the Fleet Management interface in VCF Operations 9.x.

Environment

Cause

VCF Operations 9.x is the primary recommended tool for password management because it validates passwords against active policies and prevents configuration drift between management software and component states. Using other methods, such as direct component updates or SDDC Manager's local internal vault, can lead to credential mismatches requiring manual remediation.

Resolution

Verify no failed workflows exist and no active workflows are running or scheduled in Fleet Management > Tasks and apply the below steps:

1. Log in to the VCF Operations 9.x user interface.
2. Click Manage in the top navigation bar.
3. Navigate to Fleet Management > Passwords in the left-hand pane.
4. Choose the appropriate category:
   1. Click VCF Management for management domain components.
   2. Click VCF Instances and select a specific VCF Instance or domain for workload components.
5. Locate and select the specific account (e.g., admin, root, or audit). NSX Manager component from the list.
6. Click Update password.
7. In the Update Password dialog box:
   1. Enter the Current password.
   2. Enter and confirm the New Password.
8. Click Update to commit the change.
