Issue/Introduction

You have an existing VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9 deployment and you want to convert or migrate it to a VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) 9 environment.

Environment

  • VMware vSphere Foundation 9.x
  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x

Cause

VCF and VVF are distinct architectural deployment types. VCF includes management components, such as the SDDC Manager, that are core to the environment and are not present or supported in VVF. Because VVF licenses are restricted from being assigned to vCenter systems recognized as part of a VCF instance, an in-place conversion is not possible.

Resolution

You cannot perform an in-place conversion or migration from VCF 9 to VVF 9. To transition your environment to VVF, you must perform a fresh redeployment.

For more information on the deployment process, see Start a New vSphere Foundation Deployment by Using the VCF Installer Deployment Wizard.
