Do the following DevOps solutions support Java 8, 11 or 17?
After careful consideration, and to ensure continued security, performance and compatibility with modern Java standards, as of August 2026 we will no longer provide support for Java 8, 11 or 17 for the following:
Ensure your systems have Java 21 or higher available before this date.
The change is planned to take effect with future maintenance PTFs that will become available before August 2026. Monitor for these PTFs and the associated information.
Because CCS Apache Tomcat is required by the impacted components, ensure you are current on Common Components and Services for z/OS (CCS) maintenance.
Keeping this software current ensures that you have the latest functionality, protects you from security vulnerabilities, and ensures Java runtime compatibility.
Next Steps
WARNING: When migrating to Java 21, be aware that versions 21.0.8 and above introduce IBM logging changes that can make Endevor Web Services Tomcat output output unreadable; see the Endevor Web Services Tomcat Encoding Issue article for required logging configuration workarounds.
Java 21 Support in CCS Apache Tomcat (LU16790) - CCS Apache Tomcat 9 and 10 now provide full support for Java 21 for z/OS. This Java release introduces several enhancements over previous Java releases, including better execution performance and improved security. For the complete list of improvements, see the IBM documentation.
This enhancement provides updated TOMALLOC and TOMDPLOY JCL members to update the java.util.logging properties for Java 21.
To update your CCS Apache Tomcat to use a different Java version, point the CCS Apache Tomcat Region to the correct USS Java path. For more information, see Configure a CCS Apache Tomcat Region or open a case with the Broadcom CCS Team.
