Issue/Introduction

  • During workload domain import validation in VMware Cloud Foundation, the validation of the target vCenter Server fails with the following error:"“Failed to retrieve thumbprint”:

  • Attempting to add the vCenter integration in VMware Cloud Foundation Operations also fails with "Error trying to establish connection"
  • Verifying the connectivity using openssl from SDDC Manager shows connection terminated with write:errno=104.”

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x
  • VCF Operations

Cause

Network connectivity problems or security controls interrupt SSL/TLS communication over TCP port 443 between the SDDC Manager and the target vCenter Server.

Resolution

  • Engage the Network Team to verify any SSL/TLS inspection policies, firewall rules, or security controls that may be interrupting encrypted communication, and ensure uninterrupted TCP/443 connectivity between the SDDC Manager and the target vCenter Server.
  • Once SSL/TLS communication is successfully established, retry the vCenter integration or workload domain import operation.
