Issue/Introduction

During a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) greenfield deployment resume operation, the VCF Installer validation phase fails with the following error:

cluster <cluster-name>: cluster should have DRS fully automated

This error typically surfaces when the preceding vSphere cluster deployment phase was interrupted before cluster configurations were completed.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x

Cause

An initial deployment failure during the vSphere cluster configuration stage left the cluster in an incomplete state with vSphere Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) disabled. The VCF Installer requires DRS to be fully automated to proceed.

Resolution

  • Log in to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Client UI.

  • Navigate to the Hosts and Clusters inventory view and select the target vSphere cluster.

  • Go to Configure > Services > vSphere DRS.

  • Click Edit and toggle the setting to turn ON vSphere DRS.

  • Expand the DRS Automation section and set the Automation Level to Fully Automated.

  • Click OK to save the configuration.

  • Return to the VCF Installer UI and click to re-run the validations.
