Issue/Introduction

During a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) greenfield deployment, the validation phase fails with the following error in VCF Installer:

Host is disconnected or powered off

This failure commonly occurs during resume operations if out-of-band configuration changes were attempted following a prior failure in the vSphere cluster deployment phase.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0.x

Cause

Out-of-band network reconfigurations applied directly to the ESXi host disrupted the management network connectivity, causing the vpxa management agent tunnel to vCenter Server to drop. The vCenter Server inventory marks the host as disconnected, which directly causes the VCF Installer VCmanager validation queries to fail.

Resolution

  • Log in to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Client UI.

  • Navigate to the Hosts and Clusters inventory view.

  • Identify the ESXi host displaying a "Disconnected" status (denoted by a red 'not responding' icon or disconnected state).

  • Right-click the disconnected ESXi host, navigate to Connection, and select Reconnect.

  • Provide the root credentials for the ESXi host if prompted by the vSphere Client.

  • Verify the host successfully reconnects and the vCenter Server inventory updates its status to connected.

  • Return to the VCF Installer UI and click to re-run the validations.
