Issue/Introduction

All options to manage a cluster are greyed out in SDDC UI. Hovering a mouse shows an error similar to "This operation is not allowed because cluster <cluster id> is imported".

Environment

VCF 9.x

Cause

  • This is as per the design.
  • Option to 'Add Cluster' has been disabled in VCF 9.0 as Imported clusters should be managed out-of-band by design.
  • The Clusters and its associated hosts should be decommissioned from vCenter Server instance.

Resolution

  1. Perform Cluster/Host decommission task. [Consider all required prerequisites prior to the said activity.]
  2. Update the SDDC manager about the out-of-band changes performed, via Inventory Sync.
    1. In VCF Operations, select Inventory Detailed View.
    2. Expand VCF Instances and browse to the VCF instance that contains the VCF domain you want to sync.
    3. Click the VCF domain name.
    4. Click Actions > Sync Inventory.
    5. Review the information and click Sync Inventory.
  3. Inventory Sync fails on clusters configured with a Baseline, as the sync process requires the Cluster-based Image method.
