Issue/Introduction

  • Failing to deactivate the VMware HCX integration.
  • In the process of deleting all VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC) deployments, including SDDC/SDDC Group, networking, etc., the HCX deactivation fails.
  • The HCX integration has not worked for some time, and the on-premises appliances were removed since they could not be upgraded, used, or removed through non-standard procedures, rendering the service unusable.
  • When attempting to deactivate HCX from the integrated services tab on the SDDC, an error is generated preventing completion.

Environment

VMware Cloud on AWS
VMware HCX

Cause

The HCX Manager deactivate task fails because the HCX Manager is in a failed state due to on-premises components being removed out of band.

Resolution

  • If the objective is to delete the SDDC entirely, the HCX Services "Deactivate" workflow does not need to be completed.

  • Bypass the HCX deactivation process.

  • Proceed directly with the SDDC deletion workflow as defined in the following document.
