DX Unified Infrastructure Management (Nimsoft / UIM)

Issue/Introduction

Users may observe that certain DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM) devices integrated via the apm_bridge probe appear twice in the DX Operational Observability (DX O2) inventory.

  • One entry appears with a lowercase name and another with an uppercase name (e.g., server01 and SERVER01).
  • Devices are monitored by different UIM probes (e.g., robot, jdbc_response, net_connect).
  • The entities may share the same cs_id or IP address but are not consolidated into a single name in the DX O2 UI.
  • Sorting items alphabetically in DX O2 becomes difficult due to the duplicate naming.

Environment

  • DX UIM: 23.4 CU up to CU7
  • DX O2 (On-Prem): 25.1 HF03
  • apm_bridge probe: 2.10 and earlier

Cause

While DX O2 compacts entities by IP address, the apm_bridge probe was incorrectly handling the "name" attribute as a string array rather than a single consolidated string. When different UIM probes reported the same device with different casing, the bridge failed to consolidate these into a single normalized entry before ingestion into DX O2.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in apm_bridge Hot Fix version 2.1.0 uploaded to this article. It will also be fixed in the next GA release.

  1. Deactivate the apm_bridge probe on the Primary Hub.
  2. Deploy the updated apm-bridge-probe-2.1.0 package to the robot.
  3. Activate the apm_bridge probe.

Note: The O2 inventory will not refresh immediately with the correct names. The updated, consolidated names will be reflected only after the Time To Live (TTL) configured in the apm_bridge configuration has elapsed.
